The rise of cloud-native business processes and technologies is becoming a necessity for Communication Service Providers (CSPs) that wish to make the transition to 5G Standalone (SA). This in turn requires CSP’s testing to not only become cloud-native, but to also account for new variables that come with providing a cloud-native network.

David Woodcock outlines some of the challenges operators must face when setting up a cloud-native testing environment for such a complex network. He also proposes a solution to navigate these challenges through the concept of a “Mirror Lab”, which is “a lab recreation of actual network conditions, backed by test automation and orchestration”. Woodcock proposes that such a system enables operators to account for the complexities of a cloud-native network while avoiding the tedious manual processes many operators utilized previously.
