Acentury

Acentury fosters a culture of innovation, prioritizing talent development in the tech industry. Justin Chen, a 4th year Computer Engineering student from Queen’s University, joined our Synmatrix team for a 12-month internship. From the moment Justin joined our team, we welcomed him and gave him the opportunity to work on cutting-edge radio filter design technology. We offered him a hands-on experience in hopes to amplify his eagerness to contribute his unique skills to the development of the Synmatrix application.

Diving into Radio Design
In just the first initial weeks as an intern, we lead Justin headfirst into understanding the intricacies of radio design and helped him familiarize with Synmatrix applications and tools. This preparation was crucial for his first major task: developing a page that could create a dynamically generated circuit based on user inputs. It was a challenging endeavor since no existing JavaScript library facilitated the creation of a drawn circuit. As a result, Justin had to develop most of the logic and algorithms from scratch.

Challenges and Team Support
During this phase of development, he faced numerous challenges that put his problem-solving skills and creativity to the test. Our team at SynMatrix provided him with all the support and guidance he needed to overcome these challenges. An expert developer on our team had already completed a significant portion of the problem by creating drawn components and setting up the basic logical framework. Their work served as a foundation and provided Justin with valuable direction and inspiration.

We believe the collaborative atmosphere at Acentury is a game-changer. Justin was able to engage in frequent discussions with his colleagues, sharing ideas, seeking feedback, and iterating on the feature. The constant exchange of knowledge and expertise helped Justin overcome hurdles and refine his approach. This collective effort allowed Justin and the SynMatrix team to develop a functional prototype that aligned perfectly with the team lead's vision.
